Build something that works
Yes, it's an unfortunate situation. 3taps removed their Craigslist data a few weeks ago (which we use in our Craigslist Scraper course to build into a Rails app). From their website it looks like data from Ebay and Ebay Motors is still up. Previously, they had other data sources available as well.
For now, the portion of the Craigslist Scraper course that uses 3taps can serve as a good introduction on working with APIs, though the Rails app portions are unaffected. We're currently working on rebuilding the BaseRails site and restructuring our content, so I'll have to see how much of the Craigslist Scraper course content is still reusable and possibly work some of the material into a new API course instead. I'm certainly open to feedback though, so let me know if you have any suggestions!
Yeah, i tried majority of the resources from 3Taps, and pretty much EBAY is the only one that actually functions properly and return something when using with anchor - others are empty and just return random anchor and most likely will be shutting down soon.
Might be worth expanding "Build a web scraper to collect data" series, if i'll think of something - I'll let ya know.
Thanks Albert. For what it's worth, you'll be able to see which sources are available in the graph on the 3taps home page.
