Is it possible to use Paperclip for uploading and streaming videos as well?

I'd like to add a video to a lesson much like BaseRails. Can Paperclip be used, or is there something better?

Rather than use paperclip, I recommend just embedding a video using a service like Wistia (what BaseRails uses), YouTube, or Vimeo. All three of these services will give you some code to embed a video, which uses the video's unique ID. Store this unique ID in one of your table columns and you should be able to have a customizable video player ready to use on your site. Let me know how this goes and send me a link - I'd love to see what you're building!

Well, I was able to get it working with paperclip (I hadn't seen this yet), but I don't know what's best for user experience. I have it set to save videos in dropbox and stream from there. I want the videos to be private, but if you set a YouTube video to private, it won't embed correct? Wistia looks great, but maybe a little pricey to start out on.

Nothing on Heroku yet, but here's the repo http:/github.com/natanio/tweetspeak

Wistia is a great option if you want to see user/video activity, but it's definitely pricey. Why not Vimeo instead? We used to use Vimeo and it's just as easy to set up.

I'm not sure whether you can embed private YouTube videos. Maybe it can be done using their API? Will certainly be more complicated though.
