Is there a workaround to using Heroku's SSL Endpoint?

On Heroku, they have a free SSL certificate as long as you're on their app.herokuapp.com domain. But to use your own domain requires you to set up an addon called Endpoint that costs $20 a month. Stripe needs a secure page to process payments, but I'd like to get around having to pay this fee for a new app. Is there anyway to use the herokuapp.com domain just for your payments page?

There's normally no way to get around paying $20/month for Heroku's SSL Endpoint add-on if you're using a custom domain (baserails.com instead of baserails.herokuapp.com). I haven't seen an example of a workaround...but that doesn't mean that one doesn't exist.

Here's a link that might help: https://ksylvest.com/posts/2014-05-06/setup-free-ish-ssl-tls-on-heroku-for-ruby-on-rails-or-any-other-framework. If it were up to me, I'd value the time in solving this problem to be worth more than the $20/month in cost savings. With that said, feel free to give it a shot and let me know if you're able to get it to work!

Just saw where CloudFlare have added free SSL, even to their free plans. Maybe this is also an option?

Oh that's right! I remember seeing this as well, but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Let me know if you end up exploring this option.

Unfortunately, I only saw that after going through the whole process of setting up the SSL I bought, haha. But I will probably still see if this option works.

Good point. For now, I'm pretty ready to get the app live. So I might play around with this later but just go ahead and set up the endpoint for now. Thanks!

For example, do you think there is some way to change the page's URL without a refresh?
